Eto’o still makes impact regardless of age

When the contract of Samuel Eto’o with Chelsea expired  at the end of last season, there were rumors that the player from Cameroon was going to retire as he is 33 years old and his career started to go downhill when he played with Chelsea and made over 20 Premier League appearances but only managed on scoring 9 times.

Despite his drop of form at Stamford Bridge, Everton decided to snatch him up and signed the former star of Barcelona on a 2 year long contract.

Samuel Eto’o is currently performing more in the sidelines of Everton than anything else as the experienced forward spends more time watching Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith play in the pitch and has a starting role in the lineup of Everton’s coach Roberto Martinez.

Even though Eto’o is mostly just used as a substitute, he has still managed to make an impact in Everton as well as going on to score a few goals and Leighton Baines believes that signing Samuel Eto’o was a superb transaction for Everton.

“It was a great signing, and for us to pull that off and bring him in is great. He gets the goals that win us games, and who better for Romelu Lukaku to be learning off as well? Obviously we spent big money on Rom. So in terms of finance we put all our eggs in one basket and then to so come up with a free one like Sam is brilliant’’

“He’s such a good player that it was never going to take him too long to settle. He used to be about pace and power and now you see his awareness of how to being other players into the game. But he’s still a great finisher so he’s a really good fit for us.” Leighton Baines said as he praised Samuel Eto’o and what he has done ever since joining the Premier League club.
